Three NIE poles bringing electricity supplies to the Quinn Group’s Derrylin/Ballyconnell plants were felled maliciously last Sunday night, February 17.

Paul O’Brien, CEO, Quinn Manufacturing Group, stated “In mid-2011 when this campaign of pole-cutting was an all too frequent occurrence, its impact was such that it caused very serious concern for the physical safety and welfare of our own employees or the community at large. This was known to the perpetrators and their sponsors.

“The PSNI and NIE spoke extensively about the fact that innocent lives were being put at real risk by these potentially lethal activities. Employees, churches, politicians from both sides of the border, business and community groups joined in calling for these activities to stop.

“The fact that this has now happened again shows clearly that the perpetrators and their sponsors have a total disregard for the safety and welfare of our people and of their own neighbours.

“They know that any disruption caused to our business and to our customers by these actions can only lead to loss of jobs. They know too that the reputational damage to the local area is immense. And yet they plan it and do it – deliberately and callously.

“I call on them to stop immediately and I ask that if anyone has any information which could help bring a stop to these dangerous and destructive activities, they should pass it on to the PSNI or the Gardai.”
