The community of Aughnasheelin is in shock at the sudden death of Owen Collins following an accident last Saturday.
The 61 year old, who has lived and worked as a timber contractor in the area for six years, died after sustaining injuries after a large trailer fell onto him on September 14 at approximately 6.30pm.
It is understood Mr Collins was working with a log splitter on a trailer attached to his jeep when the trailer jack-knifed and he was caught underneath.
Mr Collins died not far from his home at Miskawn, Aughansheelin. His body was taken to Sligo General Hospital for a post mortem exam. The Health and Safety Authority have been notified.
Mr Collins has been described as a “carefuland skilled man” who gave a great service to the area.
His remains are reposing at St Patrick’s Hospital Chapel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday, September 19 from 6pm to 8pm. Burial will be in England. Sympathy is extended to his wife Jenny, sons, daughters and family.
