Drumsna native, Sinead Beirne, enjoyed excellent success at the recent Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2013. The awards recognise and honour excellent care in the nursing home sector.

Sinead was the winner of the Nursing Home Director of Nursing/Person in Charge Award for the role she fulfils at Annabeg Nursing Home, Ballybrack, Co Dublin.

She was named the winner at the prestigious national awards ceremony that took place in Citywest Hotel, Co Dublin, on November 7. Sinead was one of three finalists in the relevant category and one of 24 finalists who went forward for eight award categories on the night.

Speaking following the presentation, Sinead commented: “I feel very honoured and privileged to have received the NHI Director of Nursing Award 2013. It is akin to bringing the Sam Maguire home to Leitrim!

“I have worked in care of the elderly for the past 15 years and it is an honour to go into work each day and make an impact on people’s lives. Our elderly generation are truly amazing people with amazing life stories and a spirit that we can’t imagine,” she said.

“But behind every Director of Nursing there is a team - healthcare assistants, catering, housekeeping, activity and maintenance staff. Without my team I would not have received this prestigious award and no words can express my gratitude to the staff of Annabeg Nursing Home for their true commitment, dedication, hard work and the wonderful care they provide to our residents.

“To those who work in the caring sector I would say “never lose your passion for caring.” There will be good days and sad days but you can make a difference. To sum up the feeling on receiving this award, I feel like Katie Taylor at the moment!”

Brendan O’Connell, proprietor at Annabeg Nursing Home, said he was absolutely thrilled that Sinead was acknowledged and honoured for her work.

“This is a fantastic recognition for the work that Sinead and all the team at Annabeg Nursing Home do to make our home a special place for all our residents,” he told the Leitrim Observer following her win.

“Sinead has worked tirelessly to ensure that the standard of care provided at Annabeg is second to none and she is always looking for new initiatives and activities to stimulate our residents.”

Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland Chief Executive Officer also extended his congratulations to Sinead following the ceremony, stating “The standard of entry to this year’s awards ceremony was extremely high and our panel of judges spent a lot of time deliberating over the very high calibre of entries.

“To win an award is a fantastic achievement and Sinead and her local community should be immensely proud of her success.”
