Sinn Féin Deputy, Michael Colreavy, spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has warned that the new postcode system could be the next Irish Water debacle.
“There are many unanswered questions in relation to the new postcode system Eircode. The most fundamental question is what the new system is to be used for,” he said.
“I was told that it will be a state of the art system but it has not been clarified why this particular system is necessary. It may be that considerable expense could have been saved by using existing software produced in Ireland.
“One thing is clear, the software now being adopted is of no benefit to Irish hauliers or distributors because the system pinpoints locations but the random manner in which the postcodes are generated does not allow journey planning.”
