A unique day-long event, at which Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan will speak, is being organised in Manorhamilton on Wednesday, June 24 to explore how local communities can benefit from renewable energies.
The “Renewable Energies – Prosperous Communities” conference will combine presentations, workshops and discussions in a day-long event.
This day aims to raise awareness of the opportunities for local communities to benefit economically from renewable energies, to identify local champions of renewable energy sources and its uses and to promote the concept of Community Energy Cooperatives.
The event is organised by Good Energies Alliance Ireland (GEAI) and Love Leitrim, with sponsorship from Bord na Móna and Agenda 21, and employs a bottom-up approach, aimed at empowering the local community to take their energy future into their own hands.
The main speaker will be Eamon Ryan, Green Party leader, and Pauline Gallacher from the Neilston Trust (Scotland).
This is not going to be the usual conference, for example, an important aspect of the event is the round-table discussions where everyone will have an opportunity to speak and be heard.
Research and other work behind this event have been carried out by GEAI and Love Leitrim volunteers.
They have researched the Manorhamilton potential for renewable energies (wind, solar, hydro, biomass) and they have carried out an energy audit to establish local energy spending.
All their findings will be presented on the day. This is a free event which includes lunch. You can book seats at the “Renewable Energies – Prosperous Communities” event by calling 071-9643117 or online at goodenergiesalliance.com
