St Joseph’s Training Centre closes

Trainees and staff of St Joseph’s Training centre clocked their cards for the last time, on Friday June 22nd. The decision of the Department of Education and Skills to phase out the network of Senior Traveller Training Centres by June 2012, has meant that St Josephs and all of the other Traveller Training Centres nationally, have ceased to operate.

The decision of the Department of Education and Skills to phase out the network of Senior Traveller Training Centres by June 2012, has meant that St Josephs and all of the other Traveller Training Centres nationally, have ceased to operate.

To mark the existence of the facility, the Centre has published a commemorative book which was launched in The Bush Hotel on Monday June 18th By Mr Tom Stokes. A large number of people gathered for the launch which included former students, past and present teachers, members of the past and present boards of management and committee members both past and present.

Speaking at the launch, both Martin Fallon, acting CEO of Co Leitrim VEC and Damian Brennan Chairperson of Co Leitrim VEC, paid tribute to the great work that was done in the Centre over the years.
