Future of Ladies football in doubt due to lack of officers

As awards continue to shower on Leitrim star forward Aine Tighe, the future of Ladies football in the county could be in doubt as all but one of the current Ladies County Board officers are standing down at their AGM next Sunday and no nominations have been received.

In a year when the Leitrim Senior Ladies team reached the All-Ireland Final and Aine Tighe added the Connacht GAA Sportswriter of the Year award to the Ladies GAA Intermediate Golden Boot and the Intermediate Player of the year accolade, the news that the Ladies Board are struggling to find new officers for the 2012 could put the future of the Board in jeopardy.

In a statement, the Ladies Board said “Due to the majority of our officers holding down positions for numerous years they are all stepping down this year and there are vacancies for all positions on county committee except Development Officer.

“Presently after receiving no nominations for any of the positions it has put the present County Committee in a very difficult position where it seems we will be unable to return a county committee in 2012 which will have a serious effect on Ladies football in Leitrim. “We have three teams shortlisted for Leitrim Sports Stars Awards - our Intermediate Team, U14 County Team and Dromahair Ladies, and Aine Tighe in the Individual category - and it would be a very disappointing situation where these players and the 21 clubs affiliated to the County will not have a county committee next year.”
