Leitrim designer hopes her garden will come up trumps

In a bid to fend off this year’s competitors, Leitrim-based garden designer Leonie Cornelius, the last of the Super Garden contestants, has created a gorgeous garden as part of the TV gardening competition show Super Garden.

Leonie - who moved to Ireland from Germany aged eight and now runs her own business BLUME, designing gardens, interiors, furniture and art in Co Leitrim - take on a new gardening challenge. Leonie created a garden for both relaxing and socialising, incorporating a number of special features requested by the Flynn family in Sligo.

She is hoping that her creation for the Flynn family in Sligo has the wow factor that will put her in a leading position. Mary and Gerard Flynn live with their two teenagers Adam and Aoife, and two other important family members, pet rabbits Cookie and Cream.

Both parents work full time and would love a garden to come home to after a long days work to relax in. For Adam and Aoife, they wish to have a space where they can entertain friends which is not the case currently.

For Leonie, creating this garden was not a walk in the park. She faced many challenges including injecting life into a garden which is situated beside a graveyard, dismantling the current odd shaped patio despised by Mary, and saving a pair of cherry blossom trees to use as features within the newly-designed garden.

The final winner had not been announced at the time of going to press but our fingers are crossed that Leonie will come up trumps with her family and animal friendly design.
