Lollipop Day, the nationwide fundraising event promotes the awareness of symptoms and early detection of oesophageal cancer was a huge sucess in Leitrim.
This year Leitrim area managers Annette & Micheal (survivor of OC) Martin with the help of friends and family raised a fantastic €5,500 at local shopping centres.
The funds raised will go to help further research, continue awareness and improve outcomes for oesophageal cancer patients in Ireland.
Since it was first set up in 13 years ago, the Oesophageal Cancer Fund has aimed to increase awareness of the symptoms of oesophageal cancer in order to improve the outcome for patients as early detection is crucial.
Lollipop Day calls on the public to be aware that those experiencing swallowing difficulties should attend their GP without delay, that those who suffer with chronic or severe persistent reflux symptoms such as heartburn should also attend their GP for advice.
