Local community representatives from South Leitrim came together recently to launch “Stroll for Stroke” which is an awareness campaign and 5km and 10km walk and run, which will take place on Friday next . 3rd April (Good Friday) at 5pm in Ballinamore.

The campaign which aims to increase local knowledge around the issue of stroke hopes to increase local knowledge on the signs of stroke and help educate people on what they need to do should they suspect someone is having a stroke.

The Irish Heart Foundation is the national charity fighting stroke and regional manager Breffni Gorman attended the launch to show support of this local campaign to help increase people’s knowledge of the Irish Heart Foundation F.A.S.T. campaign.

Breffni said”F.A.S.T. which stands for; Face, Arms, Speech, Time to call, was launched in 2004 after a study showed less than 50% of people who know how to act if they suspected someone of having a stroke.

“There are two million brain cells killed every minute someone is having a stroke so acting F.A.S.T. is key to someone’s survival.”

The 5km/10km walk will take place April 3rd at 5pm from Ballinamore Rehab Care Centre. Registration is €10 per adult and kids go free.

All money raised will be donated to the Irish Heart Foundation for their Stroke action work.
