Mortgage Service helps 1,400 households in three months


A total of 1,440 long-term mortgage arrears householders are using the new MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Service) Dedicated Mortgage Arrears service to negotiate with their lender since January 1.

Commenting, Michael Culloty, MABS spokesperson said: "The reality is that some of the cases should never get to court as there is affordability there when the situation is properly analysed by a Dedicated Mortgage Arrears Advisor.

“In other cases it is obvious that lenders need to start to get real in terms of their expectations and demands and, thankfully, we are starting to see a level of pragmatism and innovation in the offers being proposed by some lenders with a view to keeping people in their homes,” he said.
