Co Leitrim has been allocated €388,650 in funding under the Department of Environment’s Rural Water Programme 2014.

Welcoming the funding, Deputy Frank Feighan said: “Part of the funding is being provided towards group sewerage schemes and responsibility for the administration of the programme is devolved to Leitrim County Council,”

Senator Michael Comiskey said that the allocation “will go a long way towards improving the current water and sewerage systems”.

The funding granted is to be divided with €125,000 to go to Water Conservation/Network Upgrades and €7,650 allocated Specific Source Protection Works, both under the Group Water Scheme. €256,000 is also to be granted to Group Sewerage Schemes.

Cllr Gordon Hughes also welcomed the news noting the grant per house under the Scheme has increased by €1,000, for those on Group Water Schemes.
