125 participants took to the roads in support of the Breffni Challenge (Ck-on-Shannon) which was held recently and raised over €2,500. The walk/run once again was in aid of Breffni Family Resource Centre and the Leitrim/West Cavan Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.
The organizing committee was delighted at the support of this, its 3rd annual event. A total of €2,500 was raised with each group receiving €1,250.00 each. A big thank you to all who raised sponsorship and who gave generous donations on the day.
We would like to thank Megan Lee, Drumkeerin for the official cutting of the ribbon to start the race. Thanks to local residents who helped with catering on the day.
Mary Taylor, Catherine Keane and Marie Prunty, recorded and timed every one who crossed the winning line with the aid of Suzanne McGuinness and Niamh Lavin was ready and waiting to record computerized placing of all participants to finished the race.
Bernadette Glancy and Teresa Callaghan was available free of charge to ease the aches and pains with massage available after the race.
Trophies were presented to the following Rory Sweeney and Caroline Donoghue – 1st Male and Female in the 5K; 2nd Male and Female: Gordan Hughes and Mary Quinn; 3rd Prize: Gavin Mitchell In 10K: 1st Prize: Noel Murphy and Geraldine McWeeney; 2nd Prize: Shane Comer and Ann Marie Cox. 20K Winners : 1st Place: Colm Towey and Aoife Dorr; 2nd Place: Chris Callaghan and Fiona Gallagher and 3rd Place: Georgina Daly.
