Minister seeks full report on prison escape

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform is seeking a full report from the Director General of the Irish Prison Service following the escape of convicted Garda killer, Martin McDermott from Loughan House Open Centre, Co Cavan, yesterday afternoon.

Mr McDermott, Castlegrove, Raphoe, Co Donegal was only seven months into a seven year custodial sentence for the manslaughter of Fenagh garda, 24-year-old, Gary McLoughlin.

The Leitrim Observer contacted the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and was informed that a full report was being sought into the incident.
