This means there was a 25.8 percent increase for the population in the County Town over the previous five years. Next highest is Manorhamilton with a population of 1,336, up 15.4 percent on 2006 Census figures.

The study also showed that the majority of those moving lived in rented accommodation with only 89 of the 632 Leitrim households who moved between April 2010 and April 2011, stating that they had bought their new home with a mortgage or loan.
