Appeal after Boyle pedestrian fatally injured

Boyle gardai are appealing for witnesses following the death of a local man in a road traffic accident on Sunday evening.

A garda spokesperson told the Leitrim Observer that the pedestrian, named locally as Paddy McKenzie, Carrick Road, Boyle, was fatally injured as he crossed the Carrick Road, Boyle at approximately 7.30pm.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene and has been interviewed by gardai.

The Leitrim Observer understands that 65-year-old Mr McKenzie was crossing the road following a funeral at the nearby St Joseph’s Church.

Mr McKenzie’s remains will be removed to St Joseph’s Church, today, (Wednesday) for 11am mass followed by cremation at Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross, Dublin.

He is survived by his wife Mai, son Peter, daughter Marguerite, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a large circle of friends.
