An announcement on new primary care centres for the county is expected from the government this week.
The HSE are looking to lease primary care facilities in Carrick-on-Shannon. It is also understood that an announcement on health care is expected for Manorhamilton.
Advertising in the Leitrim Observer last week, the HSE said “As part of its remit to deliver Primary Care Services, the Health Service Executive is seeking expressions of interest with regard to the provision of lease accommodation for a new Primary Care Centre incorporating Community Mental Health Base to be located in Carrick-on-Shannon.”
According to the advert, the HSE are seeking expressions of interest from developers or those planning to develop health facilities in the county town.
The centre which will cater for Mental Health and will also include local GPs. The Health Service Executive is looking for a large “accommodation” space of 1,939sq meters excluding the GP’s offices. The HSE wants to enter a fixed term lease.
Site maps and outline descriptions of the building proposal must be submitted to the estates Manager HSE North West, Sligo before August 2, 2013.
The news comes following the sod turning of the €6 million Ballinamore’s Community Hospital and Primary Care Centre on July 12.
It is understood the centre in Carrick will include a range of medical and health services including GPs, Practice Nurses, Public Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Home Help/support staff as well as possible Speech and Language Therapy, Dieticians, Counsellor/Psychologist, Podiatry, Social work and Dental services.
The HSE West Press Office failed to provide any details on the proposed care centre for Carrick-on-Shannon at the time of going to press.
