County Leitrim accounted for the second lowest number of personal injury awards on a per-head-of-population basis in 2014, according to figures released by the Injuries Board this week.

County Leitrim accounted for the second lowest number of personal injury awards on a per-head-of-population basis in 2014, according to figures released by the Injuries Board this week.

The Injuries Board is responsible for delivering personal injury awards to claimants who have had a motor accident, workplace accident or an accident in a public place.

In total, 48 payments were made to claimants in County Leitrim with the average amount awarded coming to €25,515 and total compensation for the county amounting to €1.2m.

Leitrim’s average award was slightly higher than the national average figure of €22,642. The largest award recorded nationally last year was €972,898 and related to an employer liability claim. The total compensation awarded nationwide was €281 million.
