Ballinamore is the place to be this Easter weekend when the fourth annual Waterway Ireland Ballinamore Spraoi gets into full swing over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
From Friday to Monday, there is a plethora of events and activities that offers something to everybody. There are a number of fun events just for grown-ups, some especially for the kids and plenty for the whole family to enjoy together.
A 5-10K walk or run takes place in the town on the Friday evening to raise funds for stroke awareness and prevention. If that’s too energetic then hoe about trying the Family Fun Easter Bunny Walk on Saturday instead?
There are sponsored events right across the weekend starting on Saturday with a water sports bonanza. Try your hand at some water sports, canoe skills and stand up paddling in association with Rivermania and Leitrim Surf. For the really adventurous, Sunday is when the Waterway Ireland Kayak Run takes place.
This challenging triathlon includes a 5K run, a 1.5K kayak and a 15K cycle including juvenile, amateur and advanced categories with prizes for all the winners. Just right for burning off those extra Easter egg calories! Join in the fun as an individual or as part of a team. You can register on line for this event.

If that’s not enough you could always have a go at building your own raft for the Raft Challenge that will take place on Monday in association with Ballinamore Scouts. Safety gear will be provided for all water events.
If you’re feeling adventurous but don’t want to get wet, then have a bash at building your own super Soap Box for Sunday’s Supervalu Ballinamore Soap Box Challenge.
Ever thought how fantastic it would be to visit Willy Wonka’s fabulous Chocolate Factory? Then take part in the kids’ Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday afternoon and see if you are one of those lucky enough to find a Golden Ticket!
Later in the afternoon a Golden Ticket draw will take place to see who will win a family pass to visit Butler’s Chocolate.
No Spraoi would be complete without a bit of football. Try out your skills with an Abbey Rovers penalty shootout or join in the Soccer Blitz knock out tournament. If Gaelic Football is more your style then join Patsy Connaughton for the Football Blitz.
There’s also plenty of fun to be had bouncing around the Bubble Ballz pitch with Ronan O’Rourke.
With most of the events free to enter this should be a fun packed, affordable Easter Weekend.
There will be a free Spraoi brochure inside next week’s Observer with full details of all these exciting events and details of how to enter the competitions.
