Plans to develop a new ring road at the entrance to Sligo General Hospital at Ash lane as well as further development works at the existing car park are currently with the HSE.
Fine Gael Deputy Tony McLoughlin understands that planning within the HSE is at an advanced stage for this development.
It is further agreed that the HSE will invest €2.5 million on works around Ash Lane that will see new parking facilities for staff at the Hospital which will free up spaces for patients and visitors to the hospital.
It is believed that the car parking capacity will increase by up to 75% when works are complete which will hopefully ease the parking congestion currently at the Hospital car park.
“I have been in contact with Minister James Reilly on the shortage of parking for patients and visitors and he has confirmed to me that the HSE has the necessary funding in place to proceed shortly which is good news” stated Deputy McLoughlin.
