Following the report in the Irish Independent on Monday the 2nd of July on the HSE inspection files on childcare standards, Senator Paschal Mooney, Chairman of Leitrim County Childcare Committee would like to reassure parents that the County Committee in Leitrim have not received any such reports or complaints from parents in Leitrim in relation to childcare services.
The Committee work closely with childcare services both home based and facility based in relation to quality, development and training and commend the high quality of care and education and the commitment to training of the management and staff in Leitrim Childcare services.
‘We have one of the highest uptakes of FETAC and inservice training, participation in Síolta, The National Quality Framework and Child Protection training in the Country and the benefits of this is visible within the services’ stated Senator Mooney.
The County Committee and childcare services have an excellent working relation with the pre-school inspection team who support all services to develop best practice and ensure the children receive the best care available. The County Committee wish to emphasise the importance of this support and call on the HSE to remove the embargo on recruitment in order to allow for the replacement of the one post inspection which is vacant due to a recent retirement. The replacement of this inspector is vital for ongoing assurance of quality within childcare services. Leitrim County Childcare Committee would encourage parents to view the most recent HSE Inspection report to reassure themselves of the standards achieved by that service and the positive comments made by the Inspectors with regard to the level of care and education received by the children.
