Deputy Michael Colreavy, Sinn Féin TD for Sligo/North Leitrim has welcomed the proposals for a redraw of Sligo and Leitrim in the Constituency Commission Report.
Speaking on the issue Deputy Colreavy said: “I had three political priorities when I took my seat in Leinster House. The first was the retention of breast cancer services in Sligo Regional Hospital. The second was to see a sustainable level of employment returned to the constituency. The third was to see Leitrim reunited in the one constituency.
“Leitrim should never have been divided as a constituency as it has only led to the county being under represented at a national level. In saying that I recognise that there may be some disappointment in Donegal and Cavan that their counties will be divided. However, I and Sinn Féin, will work tirelessly to ensure that their interests will be protected in this Dáil and the next,” he said.
“Overall, I am very happy with the Constituency Commission’s report on Sligo and Leitrim. It addressed the obvious faults that existed in the Constituency and I look forward to seeing Leitrim being reunited.”
