The Leitrim People of the Year Awards, organised by Rehab and sponsored by The Leitrim Observer Newspaper, celebrates the County’s most inspiring citizens, and today (Wednesday 22nd, August, 2012) launched its 2012 call for nominations.

Members of the public are being asked to join in and nominate ordinary people in their communities who do extraordinary deeds by completing a Nomination Form. Nominations for the 2012 awards are now open, and preparations for this year’s event are underway.

The 2012 Leitrim People of the Year Awards take place in Lough Rynn Castle on Friday 12th October. Now in their 14th year, the Awards become even more celebrated each year and have become a key highlight in the Leitrim social calendar.

These Awards provide a unique opportunity for the people of Leitrim to honour those who have made a real difference to people’s lives, whether as unsung heroes or household names.

This year we have introduced new categories; such as Ambassador of the Year – We are looking for people who promote Leitrim far and wide and feel that this award will put more emphasis on The Gathering 2013, and also Arts, Music and Culture Award.

The winners of the Leitrim People of the Year Awards are nominated by members of the public and finalised by a panel of adjudicators. The closing date for entries is Thursday, 13th September, 2012.

So, if you know someone who has acted above and beyond the call of duty, someone whose success has inspired a generation, someone who has made an extraordinary contribution to their community, someone whose courage and achievement has changed our society for the better, then why not nominate them for a Leitrim People of the Year Award?

The Recipients of these Awards are a diverse group, but have one thing in common - they have all achieved something extraordinary. They have made our society a better place and their achievements are an inspiration to us all.
