The heartbroken parents and sister of 17-year-old Eoin Lavin are preparing today (Wednesday, August 22) to bid a sad farewell to their ‘beautiful son’ this morning following his death in a freak accident in the early hours of Sunday morning last.

Eoin, who hailed from Lisserdrea, Boyle was a passenger in a car which collided with a ditch on the Frenchpark to Boyle Road at around 1.20am on Sunday morning. The four other occupants of the vehicle tried frantically to save Eoin from the partially submerged vehicle but were unable to do so.

Eoin, a local GAA star, had been eagerly awaiting his CAO offer this week. Local residents described him as a bright young man who was destined to ‘go far in life’ and spoke in glowing terms of his love for his family and football.

He had recently attended his Leaving Cert graduation ball for Abbey Community College, Boyle.

He leaves behind his devastated parents, Aidan and Trudy and his sister Vicki and a wide circle of family including grandparents, Ambrose and Marie, uncles, aunts, grandaunts and granduncles and cousins along with neighbours and his many, many friends. His funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 12 noon at St Joseph’s Church, Boyle with burial afterwards in Killaraght Cemetery.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at Boyle Garda Station on (071) 9664620.
