Cultural funding

Leitrim County Council is one of three Irish led projects to be successful in obtaining funding from the European Union Culture Programme 2007-2013.

The successful recipients are: the Model Sligo, Leitrim County Council and Dance Ireland. These projects represent a grant allocation of over €500,000. All three also receive significant annual funding from the Arts Council.

Leitrim County Council’s artist-in-residence programme, LOCIS is a three-way partnership with Poland and Sweden and aims to provide artists with the knowledge, resources and opportunities to broaden their practice and operate across borders.

The EU funding which is available through Cooperation Projects is for actions shared by at least three cultural organisations or operators, working within and across arts sectors in Europe.

Orlaith McBride, Director of the Arts Council, said “This is a major achievement for the organisations concerned and demonstrates how the work of Irish arts organisations is being recognised in such a highly competitive European funding environment. This year’s results are indicative of the Irish art sector’s growing engagement with cultural partnerships and opportunities in Europe.”

The Model Sligo, was successful with its application Invisible Violence: a multi-disciplinary project produced by museums in Ireland, Spain and Serbia.
