With a risk management review of fires stations in Co Leitrim set to start shortly Cllr Francis Gilmartin has called on the Local Authority to ensure that the County’s fire stations are left as they are “for the safety of the lives of the people of Leitrim”.

Speaking at the recent Council meeting, Cllr Gilmartin said noted the excellent service provided by the Council and fire staff.

However a spokesperson for the Council said it would be “inappropriate to pre-empt the reviews at this stage”.

“All Fire Authorities are obliged to carry out a complete review of all aspects of their fire service operations in accordance with the recently published Department of Environment, Community and Local Government document -”Keeping Communities Safe”. This will include a risk management approach review of each fire station area,” he said.

“The purpose of the review is to ensure the continuation of delivery of the most efficient and effective fire service that is required to meet the requirements of each fire authority.”
