Irish Water and Leitrim County Council have issued a boil water notice for the public water supply serving the HSE Primary Care Centre in Dromahair and the Churchfield Estate following contamination of the supply.

The measure has been taken following medical advice as a precautionary measure pending further investigation.

All water users in the Primary Care Centre and the Churchfield Estate must boil water before use for drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth etc.

It is not sufficient to use domestic water filters and all water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least four minutes before use.

The current water supply can be used for personal hygiene, bathing and flushing toilets but parents should take care that children do not swallow any water during bathing.

Leitrim County Council have said that they do not know how long the boil water notice will be in place but stress that they will continue to liaise with Irish Water and the Health Service Executive “view to lifting the Boil Water Notice as soon as practicable”.

Further information will be provided to affected households via leaflet drops and through the website www.water.ie. You can also get more details by contact the Irish Water Customer Centre on 1890 278 278.

Consumers are advised that this boil water notice only applies to the Primary Care Centre and Churchfield Estate in Dromahair. No other schemes or supplies in the Dromahair area are affected.

Further details and advice on the boil water notice and areas affected, are available on the Leitrim County Council website www.leitrimcoco.ie
