A Drumkeerin woman has come up with a unique way of using those treasured baby blankets and outfits and creating a very special Memory Bear to cherish.

Vicky Crawford, founder of Patches Bears, uses your treasured keepsakes to create the Patches Memory Bear.

“These bears are up-cycled from the customers special fabrics eg; baby clothes that they can’t ‘bear’ to part with,” explained Vicky.

“I make a bear from them and personalise it with babies name, date of birth and patch pocket for visits from the tooth fairy!”

The business has been a real labour of love for Vicky.

“I love to sew and have been sewing since I was a child. I’ve been making patchwork quilts, bunting and bears for friends and family for years. I started making them for people who asked me to and so began the idea selling my handcrafted gifts,” said Vicky.

“Whilst pregnant with my daughter Lily in 2013 I took part in the Leitrim Livecraft and other courses run by The Dock,” Vicky explained to our reporter this week.

Taking the initiative, she launched her business Patches Bears in the Design House last Christmas.

As well as creating patchwork quilts and other teddies, Vicky has now added the Patches Memory Bear to her growing business.

The cute Patches Memory Bear costs €60 and, as part of the service Vicky has organised collection days in Carrick-on-Shannon, Sligo and Enniskillen. Check Vicky’s facebook page at www.facebook/patches.bears.bunting.quilts.
