Elphin man charged with cultivation of cannabis

A man with an address in Elphin appeared before Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, April 15 charged with the cultivation of cannabis at Doonarah, Garvagh, Co Leitrim.

A man with an address in Elphin appeared before Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, April 15 charged with the cultivation of cannabis at Doonarah, Garvagh, Co Leitrim.

Anthony McGarvey, Pallas Road, Elphin was arrested and charged following garda searches of five properties in the south Leitrim area and a further property in Elphin, Co Roscommon on Wednesday, April 13.

The raids resulted in the discovery of €84,000 worth of cannabis plants in a number of locations. Mr McGarvey is charged in relation to just one location. A second man was also arrested in the gardai operation. He was later released and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

Mr McGarvey was remanded on his own bail to appear before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court next Tuesday, April 19.
