FG Councillor for the Ballinamore Electoral Area Gordon Hughes has welcomed the funding from Leitrim Development Company towards the operation of a new bus route between Ballinamore & Carrick-on-Shannon.

In welcoming the funding Hughes thanked Gerry McGourty & his staff in Leitrim Development Co together with the various interest groups in the Ballinamore area for their input into the organising of same. He added that Ballinamore is the only town in South Leitrim with no bus service enabling people to connect with either a bus or rail service to Dublin & that this will be a welcome development to citizens located in the south leitrim area with no access to public transport services. Furthermore it will be of benefit to the local business & tourist organisations in the areas of Ballinamore, Fenagh, Keshcarrigan, Drumcong, Kiltoghert, Leitrim & Carrick-on-Shannon in encouraging people to the area.

In conclusion Hughes stated it is hoped to operate the bus service from Tuesday 24th September & will operate every Tuesday & Friday on a twice daily basis to enable people to do business in Carrick-on-Shannon or connect with bus & rail services to Dublin or Sligo. If successful it is hoped that this pilot scheme can be retained in the new year on a permanent basis subject to adequate demand. Prices will be on a staggered basis reducing from €5 single to €8 return from Ballinamore to Carrick-on-Shannon.
