More than 60,000 SuperValu and 8,000 AXA customers across Ireland may have had their payment card details compromised.

It emerged this week that a security breach involving the Getaway Breaks loyalty programme is more serious than initially thought.

SuperValu says 62,500 customers who booked getaway breaks between January 2011 and February 2012 have been advised to contact their banks and check for suspicious activity on their payment cards.

Customers are also being warned to treat any unsolicited communication claiming to represent SuperValu Getaway Breaks or Loyaltybuild with “extreme caution”. The loyalty booking system has been suspended thorough the investigation.

Leitrim customers who think they are affected should call: 0818 220 088.
