A large quantify of powder and tablets were discovered as a result of an ongoing investigation into the drugs trade in the area. The drugs have yet to be formally identified but gardai have described the seizure as “very significant”.

The drugs were discovered as a result of an investigation during which gardai performed a stop and search of a suspect vehicle on the N4 outside of Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday night.

Following this gardai searched a property in Carrick-on-Shannon over the course of a number of hours and discovered a quantity of powder and tablets early on Friday morning, November 8 last.

Two people were arrested as a part of the investigation. They were questioned by gardai but were later released. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.

The drugs have now been sent for analysis and formal quantification in Dublin. Results are expected in the coming weeks.

Gardai have secured a number of significant drugs finds over the last 10 months in Co Leitrim with the discovery of cannabis grow houses in Rossinver, Kinlough, Kilclare and Carrick-on-Shannon netting plants with an estimated total street value in excess of €900,000.
