Action group set up against new addiction centre

Residents in Kilclare concerned over the plans to relocate Gulladoo Addiction Treatment Centre in the former Mulross Nursing home, six miles out of Carrick-on-Shannon, have formed a committee.

Over 30 local residents met last night, Tuesday May 6 to discuss their concerns about the relocation of the centre that treats alcohol, gambling and other addictions including substance abuse to the private building in Kilclare by the end of this month.

Concerned Kilclare Residents was established with Chairperson Liam Slevin and Secretary Padraig Keane elected. The group’s first task is to request a meeting with Martin Quinn, Director of Gulladoo Addiction Treatment Centre and the owner of the Mulross building Patricia Foley. The locals are concerned about security and the location of the building in relation to other homes and businesses which is in contrast to the remote location of the current centre, outside Carrigallen.

The group are holding a protest outside Mulross this Friday evening at 7pm and are seeking local support and people to carry placards.
