Aughameeney Residents group recently launched their first action plan. The launch was held in the Bush hotel with a number of residents, agencies, community groups and County Councillors in attendance

Aughameeney residents group was formed in December 2012 under the PEACE III Housing estates project with the assistance of Leitrim Development Company.

This project has been funded by the PEACE lll Programme through the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund managed for the Special EU programmes Body by Leitrim County Council on behalf of Leitrim Peace & Reconciliation Partnership Committee.

In the short space of time that the group has been up and running, some significant achievements have been recorded.

The committee has participated on training in committee skills and communication skills.

They have also participated in a cross border exchange to Kilmacormick estate in Enniskillen and observed the workings of an Interagency group in Northern Ireland to see how agencies can work together with residents to solve issues on estates.

A Summer Youth project was organised with North Connaught Youth services

The residents committee carried out consultation with residents during the year.

The major issues highlighted were children congregating on the estate, need for cleaning and painting of boundary walls and houses, checking of heating systems and anti-social behaviour.

Over the next year, Aughameeney residents group will be working with agencies to put in place a number of actions to address the issues highlighted.

The residents group would like to thank everyone who attended the launch and look forward to working with all agencies and community groups in the implementation of their plan in the coming year.
