Gardai in Ballyconnell are investigating the destruction of a single decker bus yesterday morning, Tuesday, at Rathkeelan, Ballyconnel, Co Cavan.

The bus was parked in front of the packaging plant, Quinn Therm, and set alight at approximately 5.30am yesterday morning.

This incident follows on from a truck being driven into the Aventas Group (formerly Quinn Group) Headquarters in Derrylin in December before being set alight while in March last an arson attack took place to a Quinn Group crane at the new community school in Ballinamore.

Gardai reported there were no injuries sustained as a result of the incident.

The 52-seater bus was set alight with a banner reading - “Paul O’Brien Disaster Tours Leaving Soon”. It is believed that is a reference to Paul O’Brien, Aventas Group CEO, who has been heavily criticised by amongst others the Concerned Irish Citizens group via their Facebook page in recent weeks. The bus which was set ablaze did not carry any identifying logos and was filled inside with tyres before being set on fire.
