Gerard Houston from Carrigallen, successfully completed the HeadsUp Five Peaks Challenge which involved climbing the five highest mountains in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales to raise money for HeadsUp, Rehab’s youth suicide prevention project.

A team of 16 people took part over May 2-4.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Gerard said, “In January this year I set out to achieve new fitness levels to help prolong my life to be around for my kids.

“After seeing the 5 peak challenge advertised, I decided without much thought here is something to set my sights on and also help a charity which means a lot to me.

“By God it did not let me down, such beauty we have on our door step which we could access at little cost but valuable to our minds.

“The challenge itself gives you a chance to meet new friends and at the end you know you have achieved something great. I would highly recommend it well worth it!”

The next Five Peaks Challenge is in August, call 01 2100521 or visit
