Cloone jockey Shane Kelly had a great return in Wolverhampton last Friday when he rode no less than four winners at the meeting.
Shane, whose racing name is S.W. Kelly, recorded a combined 100/1 by riding Iced Diamond (11/2), Regency Red (15/8), Almavara (10/3) and Roman Maze (11/4).
Shane, son of John and Maureen, Drumbore, Cloone is having an exceptional season on the flat this year and since January 1 he has ridden 18 winners cross channel which puts him right up there on a par with the top jockeys.
His professional career as a flat jockey has been very successful to date and he has now ridden well over 300 winners in total. Shane is a graduate of the RACE jockey training school in The Curragh and former winner of the Irish Amateur Jockey Championship. He took a well deserved break from his success in Wolverhampton and was home in Cloone last weekend.
Shane took the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed afternoon over the banks, hedges and ditches of Eslin with the South Leitrim Harriers on Sunday last.
His day out in Eslin obviously did him a world of good and kept him in a good frame of mind as on the following morning, Monday, Shane returned to Wolverhampton and rode a 12/1 winner, Millkom Elegance, and in the next race brought Loaded Gun home in second place.
South Leitrim Harriers would sincerely like to thank the landowners of Eslin and all landowners who have accommodated them throughout the winter for allowing the hunt to cross their lands, and also to wish Shane continued success. Shane is currently Leitrim’s only professional sports figure and you can follow his progress on www.sportinglife.com.racing
