Dromahair parade shaping up to be bigger and better

Dromahair will host it’s second St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday March 16 at 3pm and after the success of last year’s parade which was deemed by a vote on The Leitrim Observer Facebook page as the best in the county, this year’s parade is shaping up to be even better.

The success of last year’s parade was due to the volunteers and local support and this year the organisers have planned a weekend full of activities for all the family.

The activities will begin on Saturday at 10am in the town park with canoeing, electric bicycles and guided walks and at 4pm there is a car treasure hunt starting from the Blue Devon at 4pm.

At 8.30pm the Lough Gill Drama Players are putting on their production of ‘I do not like thee Dr Fell’ in Ballinagar Hall.

On Sunday at 2pm the Sligo District Motor Cycle Club will drive through Dromahair with approximately 100 motor bikes as part of their ‘Nifty Fifty 3000 Mile Run’ that is part of their worthy fundraiser for North West Hospice.

At 3pm the parade will officially begin, led lead by this year’s Grand Marshall Mr. John Gillmor. John and the Gillmor family have a history of retailing and serving the community of Dromahair for 200 years.

The theme of this years parade will honour the memory of Mrs. Mc Sharry of the old Corner Shop which is now occupied by A Cut Above hairdressers. Mrs. Mc Sharry passed away earlier this year at the great age of 98.

This year’s parade will also feature a pipe band from Enniskillen and the organisers are delighted to announce that Craig McMorrow from RTE’s The Voice, will also feature in the parade.

The parade will take the same route as last year starting at St. Patricks Church, up the village, pass the viewing stage and out to St. Phelim’s Nursing Home so the residents can enjoy the procession. The organisers have expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors and volunteers for organising another great weekend.
