The front bar and accommodation section of J’s Hotel, Mohill was extensively damaged by a fire which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning last.

It took two units, one from Mohill and one from Carrick-on-Shannon, a number of hours to get the fire under control. To their credit the fire officers not only contained the blaze to the oldest section of the building, they also prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings including the adjoining function room.

Despite the tragedy Joe Farrell, proprietor of the business, refused to give up, transferring the business and all upcoming functions to the former Planxty Maguires site in the town. The Leitrim Observer would like to extend our best wishes to Mr Farrell in this new location.
