Gardai have prepared a file for the DPP after a number of people were arrested and questioned in relation to burglaries in the north Longford and south Leitrim area last week.

According to a spokesperson for the gardai, a number of burglaries were carried out between 5pm and 10pm on Tuesday, July 22 last.

Houses in Moyne and Ballinalee were ransacked and cash and jewellery were taken. Similar break-ins were carried out in Aughavas and Mohill. Gardai believe the robberies may be linked.

A garda text alert was issued in the Cloone/Mohill area looking for information on a black 02 Ford Mondeo.

The Leitrim Observer also understands that a man resident in one of the homes targetted by the thieves also gave chase in his vehicle, following the Mondeo for a number of miles.

Gardai eventually stopped the vehicle in Co Longford and arrested a number of adults. A child was also in the vehicle at the time. The adults have been questioned and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

Gardai say that the text alert scheme was instrumental in achieving these arrests. They urge everyone to join their local text alert scheme and immediately report any suspicious cars or people to gardai.

Pick-up stolen

Gardai are investigating the theft of a blue coloured Ford Dina pick-up truck from Roosky last week.

The truck registration plate is 99D71857. It was taken from a house in the Aughnaunsgin area. Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station.

A double horse box was stolen from the Boyle area on July 23.

The Nugent twin axle double horse box was stolen sometime between 9.30pm on July 23 and 7am on July 24 from a private house in Ardconra.

Gardai are appealing for information on the horsebox which has distinctive red and white coloured reflective markings around the loading door. Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station.
