The highest daily rainfall of 2012, at 99.5mm, was recorded at Lough Glencar, Co Leitrim on June 8 according to the latest statistics released by Met Eireann.

The figures marked the highest June daily rainfall on record since 1993 and was recorded during a particularly savage thunderstorm.

But it wasn’t just Co Leitrim which suffered under a deluge in June 2012, June was among the most miserable months in Irish weather history, recording both the wettest and darkest conditions since records began in locations around Ireland.
