The Leitrim Peace and Reconciliation Partnership are this year’s Irish national winners of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2014.
Their project “Embracing Change Programme” focused on young people in Leitrim and was aimed at establishing meaningful cross-community and cross-border initiatives that would improve trust and tolerance and reduce levels of sectarianism and racism.
The Leitrim programme will now be considered with 28 winners from other EU countries for the overall Charlemagne Youth Prize. The Award Ceremony took place in Aachen last night, May 27.
The Charlemagne Youth Prize is awarded to young people who have developed projects to foster understanding between people from different countries. It is organised by the EU Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation.
