There was much damage and disruption at the Aventas Group (formerly Quinn Group) Head Quarters in Derrylin this morning after an act of vandalism last night.

A stolen oil tanker was rammed into the front doors of the Head Office on the Ballyconnell Road, Derrylin at approx 11pm last night. The oil tanker was set alight and the perpetrators made off.

There were no injuries and the tanker was brought under control by the Ballyconnell Fire Brigade.

The newly named Aventas Group have called the vandalism “a moronic attempt to disrupt our business.”

A spokesperson for Aventas told the Leitrim Observer, “Our contingency plans were activated immediately and all our businesses and services are operating as normal this morning. This latest incident is part of a continuing campaign of sabotage, intimidation and vilification against this Company and certain of its employees. We are aware that all of these criminal activities are orchestrated by a minority group and their sponsors outside our business, but in the local community. These people have a concerted agenda to undermine and destabilise our business with their own misguided and self-interested agenda in mind. Despite the ‘concerns’ regularly expressed by some of these people they have no regard for the impact such activities could have on our employees’ jobs and on the local economy which is so dependent on our businesses.

“Our Group changed ownership nearly three years ago. With the continued support of our employees, we continue to face down this misguided minority with resolute determination.”

Patricia Gilheaney of Concerned Irish Citizens told the paper they “are very troubled by the ongoing situation at the company and ask that facilitation be made for all parties to get round the table to resolve this situation before lives are lost and people in the nearby area are driven to distraction.

“CIC do not condone vandalism and have grave reservations about the fact that much of the vandalism has occurred at Head Office, which is allegedly where security congregate. The question must be asked; How could this happen without security staff being aware of it and who has to benefit from these incidents?”

The PSNI have asked anyone who was travelling on the Ballyconnell Road between 22:30 and 23:30 last night, Wednesday December 11, and who saw anything suspicious, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
