Boyle man, Chris O’Dowd, has signed a worldwide deal to co-write books for children based on the phenomenally successful Moone Boy show characters.

The books will be a collaborative effort with Moone Boy screenwriter Nick Vincent Murphy.

According to reports, four publishing houses fought for the rights to the books, the first of which will be published in autumn 2014 through Macmillan.

The illustrated books will be aimed at readers aged eight and over, and will feature illustrations by Cartoon Saloon, the Kilkenny-based Academy Award-winning animation studio.

The Moone Boy television series follows the adventures of 11-year-old Martin Moone (played by Carrigallen actor, David Rawle) and his imaginary friend Séan (played by Chris).
