Zara carries Leitrim hopes to Portlaoise

Leitrim Rose for 2014, Zara Healy is rallying her supporters to Portlaoise for the Rose of Tralee Regional Finals this weekend.

Rose of Tralee Host Dáithí Ó Sé will interview each of the 60 Roses over three nights before two Judging Panels select 23 Roses to go forward to the International Festival in Tralee next August.

25 year old Zara Healy from Carrick-on-Shannon, said she is packed and ready for Portlaoise, she arrives on Thursday morning and will be interviewed on stage on Friday night, May 30.

“It has been an exciting few weeks since I was selected as the Leitrim Rose. At the Regional Festival in Portlaoise I look forward to meeting the other Roses from the various Rose Centres throughout the world.”

An accountant at Three Ireland in Dublin, Zara will not be preparing a party piece but hopes that her personality will shine through. Out of the 23 Roses selected, only six can be Irish, “It will be quite tight to get through to Tralee so I am hoping to enjoy every minute down there,” she said.

Family and friends of Zara will descend on Portlaoise this weekend, as she represents Carrick and Leitrim in the national event.

Throughout the June Bank Holiday weekend in Laois, the Roses will take part in three selection nights at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel, enjoy an Irish music evening at the Maldron Hotel Portlaoise as well as a Vintage Car Parade, funfair, street disco and a visit to Castle Durrow.

The dress Zara will wear on stage on Friday night was created by Eileen Creamer, she also thanked Belinda Marie Parker Designs for her sponsored fascinators and also two sponsored dresses from Klass Boutique, Carrick.
