The late Mike Earley: It is with sadness we learned of the passing of Mike Earley, Annaghbradigan on Friday last. In his early eighties, Mike farmed the family farm and had a great interest in his stock. In failing health in the later years Mike was cared for in Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Rooskey for the past two years. Mike had a great interest in politics and was one of the last true blues. He was prepared to do his bit and for years carried out his duty on behalf of the party in the polling booth mainly in Kiltoghert regardless where or what was taking place. To his sister Elsie Taylor, Drumsna his brother Tommy and John Joe his nephew Liam Taylor, nieces Dympna Butler Mary McLoughlin and Rita Brennan and extended family we extend our deepest sympathy. Mike’s funeral took place in St Patrick’s Church, Gowel and was interred afterwards in Kiltoghert Cemetery.
Drama Workshop for Teenagers: There is a 3 day drama workshop for teenagers taking place in St Mary’s Hall, Carrick starting the 1st July. See www.dramaclub.ie for details.
First Blood for St Mary’s: Well done to St Mary’s Kiltoghert on winning the Div. 5 final on Saturday evening last in Kiltubrid in glorious sunshine, the first adult final of the year. This was a great achievement considering it was our fourth team squad and every credit must go to Managers Damien Butler and Ashley Molloy. It was a highly entertaining game of football with the final score of one goal and thirteen points to fourteen points with most of the scores coming from play. Well done to local lads William Guckian, Fergal Reynolds, Damien Butler, Ciarian Guckian, Ross McLoughlin and of course Man of the Match, Duggie Buler who contributed a goal and eight points. How proud would his mother Patricia be if she was there to see him in such sparkling form. Well done to all.
Illegal Fishing: Read in Sundays paper that foreign nationals are cleaning out our lakes for fresh perch and pike in the Cavan and Monaghan areas. This type of fish is making good money on the continent at the moment and several stings were put in place to catch these culprits. Someone has put up some sort of stall off the island in Annaghearly Lake but no one seems to know who. Can we keep a watchful eye on any activities that one sees ongoing around our lakes because if the clean them out once it will take a lifetime to restock. Prevention is better than cure.
