Men’s Health Week: This week is International Men’s Health Week it always begins on the Monday before Father’s Day and ends on Father’s Day itself. This year, it will run from Monday 10 until Sunday 16 of June 2013. The aim is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems for males of all ages. Support men and boys to engage in healthier lifestyle choices / activities. Encourage the early detection and treatment of health difficulties in males. Cloone Home-coming and School ReUnion Festival Draw: Draw will take place in Creegans on Sunday 29 June 2013. First prize - 2 tickets in the Sir Alex Ferguson stand for a Manchester United Fixture in the 2013/14 season plus a three course meal for two in The Manchester Suite. Aughavas Gathering: The Aughavas Gathering weekend will take place on Friday 9 August to Sunday 11 August 2013. A number of events are being organised in the parish which include, access to details of Church records for families from 1800 onwards and the marking of family plots in all the graveyards in the parish. School roll books from the many schools in the parish will also be on display. The Blessing of the Graves also takes place this weekend. There will also be drama and music in the Community Centre, art and craft exhibition and workshops, football and family fun day in the GAA park and Aughavas 1963 Leitrim Championship winners Reunion. Exhibitions of photographs and memorabilia on the bygone era of country shops and dance halls in the parish will be on display. If you have any old photographs or memorabilia we would love to hear from you. The memorabilia will be copied and returned without delay. Heritage Day: Margaret of New Orleans Heritage Day on Saturday 15 June commencing at 10am in Tully South, Carrigallen is fast approaching. This event is part of the Gathering to celebrate Margaret’s 200th birthday. The weather has been kind to us over the last week and we are all geared up for a bug hunting, hay tossing, butter churning day of music, song dance and craft. Our very own talented David Rawle from Moone Boy fame will be officially opening the cottage, followed by a blessing of the house by Reverend Hazel Hickes and Father Dennis Murray PP. Blacksmith Thomas O’Reilly, who is famous for The Peace Bridge that was constructed for President Mary McAleese, will be forging Celtic pokers on the day; Paul Farrelly of Drummully Boxty will be making their delicious boxty; Caroline Walsh will be spinning and weaving from Flax and wool; Neil Foulkes will carve beautiful and functional wooden spoons in front of your eyes and Martin Doyle of Crutu, will be on hand to provide taster courses of sculpting in clay - Get your hands sticky and messy and see your artistic side emerge. The day will be rounded off with an evening of entertainment in The Corn Mill Theatre and Arts Centre, with specially commissioned pieces by Charlie McGettigan, John Mc Cartin, Tony Fahy, Karl Mc Cartin School of Dance and Maura Williamson’s Hedge School Drama re- enactment. Help my Kid Learn Day: The Library Help My Kid Learn Day on 11 June is part of a wider public information campaign going on at the moment, with the TV series on RTE 1 Mondays 7.30pm called “The Family Project”. County Childcare Committees and libraries are actively involved, sharing information about the www.helpmykidlearn.ie website. Overall, this campaign, led by the National Adult Literacy Agency, is about raising awareness of the important role parents and guardians can play in supporting their children’s literacy and numeracy development. Ballinamore library have on display books for both parents and children to help support them with this awareness. When in the library you can also log onto the www.helpmykidlearn.ie website.

Craic cois na h’Abhann will take place over the weekend of the 19-21 July in the grounds of Aughawillan G.A.A. with a host of events inspiring fun, culture, heritage and sport. Coding for Kids for free: We are setting up a free coding for kids class in Ballinamore. Coding is the way you build websites, computer games and Apps. Coding is very useful for kids and adults alike. CoderDojo is the organisation worldwide who want to teach kids to code for free. All the information is here www.coderdojo.com. There are over 50 coderdojos in Ireland today. We need adults and kids to email us to see if we have enough interest. We intend to have one every Saturday for 1 or 2 hours.
