Division 1 Victory: Having been the dominant force for long periods in a good Division 1 game against Gortletteragh, Drumreilly had to pull out all the stops to successfully see off a late rally by the visitors at Carrickmakeegan on Saturday evening July 20th. When Gortletteragh mull over the “might have beens” of the game they will rue their erratic shooting as the biggest cause of their defeat. For the first quarter it was nip and tuck fare. Brian Fee (1st and 10th minutes.), James Holahan ( 5th) and Nigel Maguire (12th ) chalked up points for the hosts, while Gortletteragh’s Cathal Quinn (2pts), Cathal McCrann (pt.) and Mark Duignan (pt.) had the sides level at 0-4 all at the end of the first quarter. In a purple patch James Holahan, Brian Fee, Declan Maxwell and Graeme Taylor notched four unanswered scores to leave the interval score at 0-8 to 0-4. On the resumption Pádraig Gallagher’ narrowed the deficit to two points, and James Holahan responded with a point, and as Drumreilly exerted pressure in this period their quest for scores was frustrated by two great fetches on the square by influential player Cathal McCrann. Great ball winner Holahan pointed and in the 10th minute under great pressure sent to the Gortletteragh net to leave the home side ahead on double scores. The visitors however were in no mood for surrender, and Drumreilly were fully stretched as Cathal Quinn (pt.) and James Campbell (gl.) narrowed the margin to two points, but a much-needed Nigel Maguire point, their last score, steadied home nerves. Two late points courtesy of James Campbell and Cathal Quinn left the scores at 1-10 to 1-9 at referee Ciaran Moran’s final whistle. The Drumreilly lineout was Mick McGirl, Ronan McCartin, Graeme Taylor (0-1), Fergal Mitchell, Nigel Maguire (0-1), Kevin Holahan, John McKeon, Declan Maxwell (0-1), Seán Fee, Damon Maguire, James Holahan (1-3), Brian Fee (0-3), Cormac Maguire, Ollie Maguire and Adrian McGirl. Subs used: Dermot Holahan, Ciaran Holahan.
