Free WEEE recycling: Free WEEE recycling for Ballinamore as ERP, in association with Leitrim County Council, confirm collection day at Tesco Car Park, New Line Road on 14th June. The European Recycling Platform (ERP) in association with Leitrim County Council will hold a free responsible electrical & electronic recycling day on Friday the 14th June at Tesco Car park, New Line Road in Ballinamore from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Householders are encouraged to bring along their electrical waste – any unwanted electrical items with a plug or a battery – where they will be responsibly recycled free of charge. ERP’s mission is to ensure cost-effective implementation of the European Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive through innovative waste management strategies for the benefit of participating companies, their customers, as well as the environment. Since its establishment ERP has collected, treated and recycled over 1 million tonnes of WEEE. ERP Recycling Officers will be on hand to help with the unloading of items. John McGahern Bus Tour: Wed 12th, Frank has organised a bus tour of Ballinamore, Aughawillian, Corraleehan and Fenagh with a visit to Glenview Museum to view the many items there identified with and presented by John McGahern. 200th Birthday Celebrations of Margaret of New Orleans: On Saturday 15 June 2013 The Margaret of New Orleans committee are having their Heritage Day as part of The Gathering to celebrate Margaret’s 200th Birthday. The cottage will be officially opened by our very own talented David Rawle from “Moone Boy”. The opening will be followed by a day of Heritage craft demonstrations from weaving to clay sculpting and you will be able to come away from the day with an item you have made yourself! There will also be music and food available throughout the day at the cottage. The day is free, with donations welcome and all activities are suitable for all the family. The day will be proceeded by an evenings entertainment including specially commissioned pieces by Charlie McGettigan, Karl McCartins school of dance, John McCartin, Tony Fahy and Maura Williamsons Youth drama productions. Parish Website: It is hoped to have a parish website set up in the near future, the meeting had a presentation on the type of websites currently in place in parishes throughout the country and on the benefits of having such a site, improved communications within the parish and the area. A subcommittee has been set up to work on bringing this to completion over the next eight to ten weeks.

Help my Kid Learn Day: The Library Help My Kid Learn Day on 11 June is part of a wider public information campaign going on at the moment, with the TV series on RTE 1 Mondays 7.30pm called “The Family Project”. County Childcare Committees and libraries are actively involved, sharing information about the www.helpmykidlearn.ie website. Overall, this campaign, led by the National Adult Literacy Agency, is about raising awareness of the important role parents and guardians can play in supporting their children’s literacy and numeracy development. Ballinamore library have on display books for both parents and children to help support them with this awareness. When in the library you can also log onto the www.helpmykidlearn.ie website.
