DRUMREILLY COMMUNITY NEWS

St.Mary’s, Drumlea

No weekday Mass this week. Vigil Mass on Saturday at 8pm. Servers are Emer, Michelle and Niamh McCabe. Supervising parent- Sheila McCabe. Eucharistic Ministers are Padraig Gaffney and Peggy McGirl. Euch. Adoration each Tuesday evening by 7pm followed by Prayer Service with Communion at 8pm. Cursillo weekend will be held in March in the Star of the Sea Retreat Centre, Mullaghmore, Co.Sligo. Dromod Festival Launch Night

To officially kick off preparations for the 2011 Dromod Family Festival Day, a launch night is organised for Saturday 26th Feb, 9pm in the Brandywell, Dromod. A short presentation by Dromod Development will highlight the many excellent works completed in 2010, much of which is dependent on local fund raising events such as the Festival Day. The presentation will also focus on the works planned for 2011 which will include many new projects.

TheEslin GAA Slimathon is now in full swing and proving to be a great boost to the health and fitness of all involved. This past weeks total weight loss was 18 stone 6lbs an unbelievable 3 stone more than last week.So a great effort is going in all around.

Death of Mr. Dermot Doherty

The Community was stunned to learn of the sudden death on Monday evening last of Mr. Dermot Doherty, Carrick Road, one of our community’s best known and most successful businessmen. The late Mr. Doherty who had celebrated his 61st birthday only a few days previously, took ill unexpectedly at his residence. Despite the heroic efforts of Doctor Declan Loftus and the NOWDoc team who were at his side within minutes, they were unable to revive him.

Lecture is Ballinamore Library

A lecture titled ‘The Ribbon Society in Leitrim and the surrounding countryside, 1836-1846’ by Dr Jennifer Kelly, NUI Maynooth will be held in Ballinamore Library on Friday February 18th at 8pm. Admission is free and everyone is most welcome.

Late Johnny Flynn

The death on Wednesday February 9th of Johnny Flynn, Derrinwillan, Corry, Drumkeerin evoked widespread regret and sadness. With Johnny’s death, Drumkeerin and the wider communities had lost a much loved and much respected man. Johnny’s quiet, cheerful and friendly way endeared him to everyone. He was always sincere and yet full of fun and could spin a yarn. For everyone it was always a pleasure to meet him. Like many a good singer Johnny was the reluctant one when called on at the party or gathering. So it was everyone’s pleasure as he sang “The Roads of Kildare.”

Deaths

Deepest sympathy to Thomas Kelly, Laheen on the death of his brother Canon Micheal, Church St, Ballinamore and uncle of Mary McKiernan, N.T., Drumcong, Fr. Liam Kelly P.P., Co.Cavan, also to family, relatives, friends and neighbours. The death took place in Cavan General Hospital on Monday, February 7th with burial last Wednesday 9th in the Churchyard, Ballinamore after Mass. May his soul Rest in Peace.
